As many as 20 Maoists were arrested with arms and ammunition from different places by the police in Telangana’s Mulugu district in the last 48 hours, police said on Saturday (May 17, 2025).
The seized arms and ammunition include three 5.56 mm INSAS rifles with six magazines and 70 live rounds, four 7.62 mm SLR rifles with 10 magazines and 88 live rounds, one .303 rifle with one magazine and 11 live rounds, four 8mm rifles with 11 live rounds, 16 12-bore weapon cartridges and two live grenades.
According to the police, an amount of ₹58,155, four walkie-talkies with antennas, six radios, nine rechargeable batteries, six each pen drives and memory cards, and other materials were seized from the arrested Maoists.
The arrested include one division committee member (DCM), five area cmmittee members (ACMs), 14 party members and 20 militia members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). Of the 20 arrested Maoists, 19 hail from Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar division and one from Malkangiri district in Odisha.
They were apprehended during separate vehicle checking and search operations at different places under Venkatapuram, Wazeedu and Kannaigudem police station limits on Friday and Saturday.
The Mulugu district police tightened vigil along the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh to prevent the entry of Maoists from Karregutta hillocks on Chhattisgarh side into the district, police added.
