Postecoglou delivered on his promise of “always” winning a trophy in his second season in charge by ending Tottenham’s 17-year wait for silverware.
The Australian had been under considerable pressure for his job for the vast majority of the season with the club down at the wrong end of the Premier League table, currently sat in 17th place, just one place above the relegation zone.
Spurs have lost 21 of their Premier League fixtures so far ahead of Sunday’s final game of the season, and are guaranteed for their lowest league finish since they were last in 47 years in their promotion winning season from the second tier.
Had Tottenham lost Wednesday’s Europa League final, it’s likely that the 59-year-old would have lost his job, though it now appears unlikely he won’t be in charge for the club’s opening game of next season’s Premier League campaign in mid August.
To be Tottenham manager on 16th August (bet365):
- Ange Postecoglou – 4/6
- Thomas Frank – 3/1
- Francesco Farioli – 6/1
- Marco Silva – 8/1
- Mauricio Pochettino – 10/1
- Scott Parker – 12/1
- Andoni Iraola – 16/1
- Oliver Glasner – 20/1
- Kieran McKenna – 20/1
Current Brentford manager Thomas Frank is the next shortest price at 3/1 to make the move across London and be in charge of the north London for their opening game of the new league campaign, just ahead of recently departed Ajax manager Francesco Farioli.
Another current manager in west London, Marco Silva, is also among the names in question, as is former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who led the club to the Champions League final in 2019 but is currently managing the USA ahead of their home World Cup next year.
