Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar said on Thursday that there was no deadline to apply for new ration cards, and no eligible person would be left out of the scheme.

Addressing the media along with Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur here, Mr. Manohar said there was also no deadline to apply for modifications, and maintained that there was no delay in issuing the ration cards.

The cards were being issued in 21 days of the submission of applications, subject to compliance with the eKYC norm. Modifications and updating of the cards were being done from May 7.

As on date, eKYC of 95% of the ration cards had been completed, which no other State could accomplish. Out of 4,24,59,028 cards, eKYC was done for 22,59,498.

Mr. Manohar said so far five lakh applications had been received, and there had been no major glitches in sanctioning the cards.

After the coalition government took charge, ration card data had been linked with the village and ward secretariats. Ration cards would be distributed to all the eligible beneficiaries in June.

The Minister clarified that those seeking changes in the ration cards need not submit marriage certificate or wedding photos as proof. Clear instructions were given in that regard to the secretariat staff, he said.

Addition of names to ration cards would be done immediately after due verification, but valid documentation was required to have names deleted. Deletion of names was limited to cases of death. Surrender of cards had to be done by families together.

eKYC, Aadhaar seeding and ration card surrender options would be made available through WhatsApp soon, Mr. Manohar added.
