Shubman Gill has been named captain for India’s five-match Test series against England, which gets underway next month.
Gill replaces Rohit Sharma, who announced his Test retirement earlier this month. Taking to Instagram, Rohit stated: “Hello everyone, I would like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket.”
At 25, Gill is among the few Indian cricketers to play consistently across all three formats. He has captained the Gujarat Titans in the IPL for the past two seasons, earning respect in the dressing room for his calm, composed leadership — especially in high-pressure situations.
In Test cricket, Gill has batted both as an opener and at No. 3. He has featured in 32 matches, scoring 1,893 runs with five centuries and seven fifties.
