“Today” show co-host Sheinelle Jones is mourning a devastating loss – her husband, Uche Ojeh, has passed away at the age of 45 after a private, prolonged fight with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The news was confirmed during Friday’s broadcast of the NBC morning show. Savannah Guthrie delivered the emotional announcement on air:
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.”
Through tears, she added, “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and her three young children. Uche was an incredible person, and we all loved him.”
A Devoted Husband and Father
Uche Ojeh, a Philadelphia-based consultant, met Jones during her freshman year at Northwestern University, where he was a high school senior touring the campus. Their love story spanned decades – they dated for eight years before marrying in 2007, eventually welcoming three children: Kayin, 15, and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche.
Jones, 47, had been absent from the “Today” show since December 2024, citing a “family health matter.” The true weight of that announcement was made clear today.
Fellow anchor Craig Melvin paid tribute on-air, recalling how much Ojeh adored his children.
“He loved those kids more than anything else in this world.”
Al Roker called Ojeh “wickedly funny” and “humble,” highlighting his quiet strength.
A Quiet but Brutal Fight
Ojeh’s illness was not publicly known until his passing. Sources close to the family told Page Six that the beloved husband and father fought bravely but privately.
Details about when he was diagnosed or how long he battled glioblastoma have not been shared. Glioblastoma is among the most aggressive and lethal forms of brain cancer, with limited treatment options and a high recurrence rate.
Jones last updated fans in January 2025 via Instagram, saying she was dealing with “a family health matter.” A source later told People that the situation was “very serious.”
Her post read:
“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my ‘Today’ show family, but also to have you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”
A Legacy of Love
Those who knew Uche Ojeh remember him as a man of integrity, intellect, and heart – someone who kept a low profile despite his proximity to one of television’s most recognized figures. A triathlete, a father, a husband, and a constant behind-the-scenes presence in Sheinelle Jones’ career, he leaves behind a legacy defined not by headlines but by deep familial love.
While Sheinelle Jones has not yet spoken publicly beyond her earlier Instagram post, her “Today” show family made it clear: she is surrounded by support as she navigates this unimaginable grief.
