A Class X student was stabbed to death by a youth who barged into her house at Pulivalam village near Sholinghur town in Ranipet on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased was identified as J. Janani (15). Her cousin as B. Lakshaya (16), a class XI student, was seriously injured in the attack on the girls.
On Wednesday evening, along with her cousins, Janani had been playing in her grandmother’s house in the village, when the youth barged into the house and locked it from inside. He attacked Janani and her cousins, who cried for help.
Neighbours catch attacker
Hearing the commotion, neighbours and relatives broke the door down and caught the attacker. They informed Sholingur police, who rushed to the spot.
Relatives shifted the injured girls to the Government Taluk Hospital in Sholinghur where doctors declared Janani dead on arrival. Badly injured Lakshaya was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
