The Kolar police have registered an FIR against Niranjana Vanalli, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Bengaluru North University (BNU) under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) amendment bill 2015, and also under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Following the directions of the district sessions court of Kolar, the police have registered an FIR. Manjunatha. R, guest faculty of the BNU had filed a private complaint before the court. The court directed the police to register an FIR, conduct an investigation and submit the report.

According to the FIR, the complainant accused the VC of insulting him based on his caste. “Though there were no complaints against me, the VC had placed an additional agenda in the syndicate meeting making false allegations against me and also tried to defame me. He is harassing me as I belong to the SC community,” the complaint read.
