Shivamogga
A six-year-old girl died allegedly after her mother threw her into a tank at Jinnenahalli Koplu in Channarayapatna taluk in Hassan district of Karnataka on June 8.
Villagers saw Sanvi, the child, struggling for survival in the tank. They rescued her and rushed her to a hospital. However, she breathed her last on the way. The villagers blamed Shwetha, the mother, for her child’s death.
Shwetha was married to Raghu from Shivamogga about six years ago. The couple have one daughter.
In recent years, the husband and wife had separated following differences. Shwetha had been staying in Bengaluru. Her parents died in the last few years. Shwetha had been disturbed by these developments.
According to the villagers, Shwetha visited her parents’ village on June 7. She stayed with a relative. The next day, she went out with her daughter. Later, villagers found the girl struggling in the water while Shwetha maintained that she also wanted to end her life.
Hirisave police took Shwetha into custody and shifted Sanvi’s body to Hassan for a post-mortem. Later in the evening, Raghu and his relatives arrived at the hospital.
