Jackie Chan has confirmed fans haven’t seen the last of Detective Lee just yet.

The 71-year-old action legend says “Rush Hour 4” is still in development. Speaking with Screen Rant, Chan didn’t hesitate to say yes when asked if the long-rumored sequel is happening.

“Yes! And I want to do [another] ‘Shanghai Knights’, ‘Shanghai Dawn’,” Chan said, listing off other titles he’s hoping to revisit alongside “Rush Hour 4.”

The fourth installment of the beloved buddy cop franchise has been in limbo for years, with both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker previously expressing interest in reuniting. But despite the excitement, there’s still no clear word on when, or even if, the film will actually get made.

“The script is still going on,” Chan explained. “I want to do a ‘Rush Hour 4’. I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing ‘Rush Hour’.”

The original “Rush Hour” hit theaters in 1998 and quickly became a global hit. Chan’s serious Hong Kong detective character clashed hilariously with Tucker’s wisecracking LAPD officer, creating a unique mix of action and comedy. The movie made $244.7 million worldwide on a $35 million budget, and the chemistry between the two leads carried through two more sequels in 2001 and 2007.

Together, the trilogy has grossed nearly $850 million globally, making it one of the most successful action comedy franchises of all time.

Chan first revealed the fourth movie was in the works back in 2022, during the Red Sea Film Festival. He confirmed at the time that he was going to meet with the film’s director, though he didn’t name anyone specific.

That’s where things get murky. Brett Ratner, who directed the original three films, was originally linked to the sequel. However, Ratner’s name was dropped from major Hollywood projects after multiple sexual assault allegations surfaced in 2017. Warner Bros. cut ties, and while reports once claimed Ratner and Lionsgate were developing “Rush Hour 4,” nothing has been officially confirmed.

Meanwhile, Chris Tucker also said he’s ready to return. On “The Big Tigger Morning Show,” the 53-year-old actor shared his enthusiasm:
“You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level. That’s what I like. I’m excited about that… ‘Rush Hour 4,’ that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie.”

So while the exact timeline is still up in the air, both stars are clearly on board. Whether or not we’ll see “Rush Hour 4” any time soon depends on the studio, and how fast they move before the duo really do hit 100.
