Rebel Wilson is hoping her beloved Pitch Perfect character, Fat Amy, finally walks down the aisle in the next installment of the hit franchise – Pitch Perfect 4.
The actress played the scene-stealing Amy in the original trilogy and says she’s game for round four, especially if it includes a wedding.
In an interview with Variety, Rebel shared her dream for Pitch Perfect 4, saying, “I think there should be a wedding.” She’s not just hoping to return but is also excited about the behind-the-scenes possibilities. “There’s a lot of us who are directors now,” she added. With names like Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, original writer Kay Cannon, and franchise regular Elizabeth Banks in the mix, Wilson hinted that one of them might take the director’s chair this time.
Rebel herself is keeping busy with her own directing gigs. “I’m about to direct another movie, so that keeps me busy until early next year,” she said. But she’s hopeful that Pitch Perfect 4 could head into production in 2025.
She dished about the sequel while promoting her new action-comedy Bride Hard, which reunites her with Pitch Perfect co-star Anna Camp. Their chemistry onscreen is powered by real-life friendship. “You can tell in the movie that we’re such good friends. There’s just good camaraderie,” Rebel said. “We shot this during the writer’s strike, so some of the scenes weren’t quite written. But because we were besties, we could play that and improvise that quite well.”
In Bride Hard, Rebel flips her usual dynamic with Camp. “In Pitch Perfect, she’s very uptight, and I’m more the wavy line,” she explained. “In this one, because I’m an operative, I’m more the straight line, and she’s the wavy line, playing kind of a ditzy bride.”
To prep for the physically demanding role, Rebel said she went into full “beast mode.” Speaking to People, she shared, “I trained for a full five weeks and did conditioning for it. I was pretty strong during this movie.” She even uses curling irons like nunchucks in one scene, an homage to her childhood inspiration, Jackie Chan. “Even if [his movies] weren’t subtitled and I couldn’t understand the dialogue, I just loved all his comedy-action scenes,” she said.
Between wedding dreams for Fat Amy and action-packed stunts in Bride Hard, Rebel Wilson is proving she’s still full of surprises, and ready to shake things up, whether it’s on the altar or the battlefield.
