Bella Thorne just reignited a long-dormant Hollywood drama, calling out Charlie Puth in a scathing Instagram comment that accuses the pop star of lying to the world about their brief romance back in 2016.
Responding to a quote about singer Jade Thirlwall refusing to collaborate with Puth, Thorne didn’t hold back. “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t … do the deed with him,” she commented.
Yep, Bella just blew the lid off what seemed like old celebrity gossip, but clearly, there’s still some bad blood. If you remember, the two were linked for a hot second in December 2016 after showing up together at Jingle Ball in Miami. Puth even serenaded her onstage, which had fans thinking romance was in the air.
But things turned sour fast. That same month, Puth hopped on Twitter (now X) and basically accused Thorne of playing him, claiming she hadn’t actually broken up with Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey at the time. “I can’t believe what I’m reading,” he tweeted. “No one should have their heart messed with like this.” He didn’t name Bella directly but added, “She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me.” He even sent a public apology to Posey.
Thorne quickly clapped back, insisting it was all a misunderstanding. “Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and Charlie and I AREN’T DATING,” she wrote on X. “Charlie and I were hanging out.. he saw an old interview and got butthurt but instead of texting me and asking about it he put it on Twitter.”
The back-and-forth didn’t end there. In a 2017 appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Show, Thorne cleared up more of the drama. “Ty and I stopped dating and that was really difficult for me,” she said. “Charlie had been tweeting about me for a while. He was trying to reach out.” According to her, they only hung out twice, went to the movies, and she even complimented his talent. But things got “blown way out of proportion” once he saw an old article about her and Posey, didn’t check the date, and assumed the worst. She claimed he never even asked her directly and just jumped online instead.
Bella said she made sure to clear things up with Posey and even hung out with him when she got back home. “Charlie saw an old news article, and he didn’t look at the date,” she explained. “In Charlie’s defense, it sounded like I was still dating Ty. But he didn’t even text me.”
Fast-forward to 2024, and the drama is still lingering. While Puth hasn’t responded to Thorne’s recent claims, her comment adds an entirely new layer to what was already a messy Hollywood misunderstanding. The idea that a pop star launched a public smear campaign just because things didn’t go his way is a serious allegation, and it sounds like Bella’s been holding onto this for years.
Since the fallout, both stars have moved on with their lives. Thorne is now engaged to film producer Mark Emms, and in a December 2023 interview, she shared that the couple is closer than ever, though they aren’t rushing the wedding plans.
Puth, on the other hand, tied the knot with childhood friend Brooke Sansone in September 2023. “I love you Brooke… I always have,” he wrote in a heartfelt Instagram caption. “With you I am my very best.”
While their love lives seem to be stable now, the past clearly hasn’t been forgotten, especially not by Bella. Her new comments have fans revisiting that chaotic 2016 moment and asking: Was there more going on behind the scenes than we knew? And if what Bella says is true, maybe it’s time some people reevaluate their timelines.
Stay tuned, because in Hollywood, old tea has a habit of boiling back up when you least expect it.
