Kevin Durant has always kept his personal life under wraps, but one Instagram story has the internet talking.

The NBA superstar, who was once engaged to former WNBA player Monica Wright, has never been one to flaunt relationships publicly. That’s why fans went into overdrive when he reshared a photo of himself with former WNBA star Liz Cambage, sparking instant dating rumors.

The picture appeared on Cambage’s Instagram first, with her tagging Durant and writing, “Shooters only @easymoneysniper.” The two seemed to be at a concert at the same time, and Durant wasted no time reposting it. Social media, of course, wasted no time either, jumping to the conclusion that the 36-year-old forward and the 6’8” Australian basketball star might be more than just friends.

Cambage, known for her dominant presence in the WNBA, last played in 2022 with the Los Angeles Sparks. Her season was cut short after just 25 games when she unexpectedly parted ways with the team. Durant, on the other hand, has had his name linked to few public relationships in recent years, making any hint at romance big news for his fans.

The reactions online ranged from playful to downright hyped. “Another win from KD,” one fan wrote. Others joked about the potential height of any future children, with comments like, “Never seen a couple both around 7 ft… imagine their kids,” and “Next KD/Wemby demon is upon us.” A few even poked fun at Durant’s famously private dating history, saying, “KD smiling hard in this pic cause he’s finally proving he gets h***.”

This sudden wave of speculation comes after Durant opened up last year about why he’s stayed single. On Instagram, he posted nine reasons he avoids relationships, everything from overthinking to caring too much and needing constant reassurance. On Logan Paul’s podcast, he went further when iShowSpeed asked him about his love life. “I don’t want a girlfriend,” he said bluntly. He explained that he’s learned women are never truly “yours,” even in committed relationships, because they can be influenced by others. When iShowSpeed tried giving him dating advice, Durant quickly shut it down with, “Stop talking to me like I need advice on women, bro.”

Whether or not he and Cambage are actually dating remains unconfirmed. The two could have simply run into each other at the event or be longtime friends catching up. Still, in the court of public opinion, that single Instagram post was enough to set off a wave of excitement. Fans seem to be rooting for both of them, whether as a power couple or just two basketball icons enjoying a night out.

Durant, who’s had a career defined by intense focus and discipline, doesn’t usually feed the rumor mill. But with one picture, he’s shown that even he isn’t immune to a little social media chaos. For now, all eyes will be on his Instagram to see if this was a one-time post or the start of something more.
