Taylor Swift has again demonstrated Kansas City Chiefs support, this time by the team’s new ESPN docuseries, The Kingdom.
The six-part series, under the direction of Kristen Lappas, traces the current NFL dynasty while featuring prominent stars such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, defensive tackle Chris Jones, and longtime head coach Andy Reid.
As Lappas reports, Swift, 35, was “very supportive” of the show and gave permission for her image and likeness to be used in the series. Although the creative team did not attempt to interview her, Chiefs executives confirmed that her presence still mattered to the narrative. Lara Krug, the CMO of the team and COO of Foolish Club Studios, said the idea behind the project was to maintain the spotlight on the franchise and the community. “Now you see her the way that I believe is how she wished to be viewed, which is as a member of the fanbase,” Krug said.
Made by Words + Pictures in association with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Foolish Club Studios, The Kingdom documents the Chiefs’ 2024 campaign as well as delves into the legacy of the franchise since its creation in 1959. Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt characterized the series as a “tribute to everyone who has contributed” to the team throughout the years.
Swift’s Chiefs allegiance has been proudly displayed since she started dating Kelce in 2023. From her very public Super Bowl outings to her iconic red-and-gold game day attire, the pop star has fully bought into being a member of the Chiefs’ family. Hunt even attributed Swift with a huge spike in the team’s popularity, reporting to CNBC earlier this year that the franchise’s fan base jumped by an estimated 30 percent, especially among young women fans, in large part because of her involvement.
Players themselves also weighed in on the effect of Swift’s attendance during the 2023 season. During the series, Mahomes and Jones remembered when they found out she was going to watch her first NFL game at Arrowhead Stadium. “We were like, ‘Oh my God! Travis pulled Taylor Swift,’ ” Jones conceded, while Mahomes stated that the energy around the stadium was palpable.
In the meantime, Kelce resumed play in the Chiefs’ preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead on Aug. 22, his first appearance of the 2025 season.
All seasons of The Kingdom can be streamed on ESPN+.
