Miguel is officially a dad – and he’s been keeping it private for a year.

The Grammy-winning “Sure Thing” singer surprised fans this week by sharing that he and his partner, Margaret Zhang, privately welcomed their first child last year. The couple marked the little one’s milestone with a heartfelt Instagram tribute celebrating the baby’s first birthday.

“Our baby turned 1 today,” Miguel wrote in the caption of his Sept. 9 post, which included a sweet video of him holding his child. While the baby’s face was blurred for privacy, the love was unmistakable. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELITO!!! We love you so much. So proud and honored that you chose us to be your parents. Papá wrote you a song, hope it always reminds you of how loved you are.”

The 39-year-old singer’s reveal comes three years after his high-profile split from ex-wife Nazanin Mandi. Miguel and Nazanin finalized their divorce in 2022 after three years of marriage and nearly two decades together. According to court documents obtained by E! News at the time, Nazanin filed for divorce in California citing irreconcilable differences, with their assets divided per their prenuptial agreement.

Their relationship had long been marked by ups and downs. The pair initially separated in September 2021 before reconciling months later. By February 2022, Nazanin even hinted at their rekindled romance in a steamy Instagram post, writing, “Heal the root so the tree is stable… I’m so proud of us.” She signed the message as “The Pimentel’s xoxo,” referencing Miguel’s real last name.

The reconciliation, however, didn’t last. Just months later, the couple went their separate ways for good. Still, their bond remained evident even through tough times. For example, when Nazanin underwent LASIK eye surgery in late 2021, she shared on Instagram that Miguel had been by her side, joking that he even had “Lasik sympathy pains” for her.

Their breakup closed a long chapter in Miguel’s life. The two had met as teenagers, Miguel was 19 and Nazanin was 18, and spent nearly two decades growing together. Speaking to E! News after their 2018 wedding, Nazanin reflected on the journey, saying, “When you’re with somebody starting from 18, a lot of things happen. There’s a lot of growth. There’s a lot of growing pains. All through our twenties was the time to really find ourselves, and fortunately, we grew together and not apart.”

Now, Miguel is entering a brand-new chapter – fatherhood – and seems overjoyed about this role. While he’s kept his baby’s identity private, his emotional words make it clear he’s embracing this journey with love and gratitude.

For fans, the announcement adds a personal layer to the R&B star’s career, which has always blended vulnerability with artistry. And with a new child and a fresh start, it looks like Miguel is ready to step into his next era both personally and musically.
