Two best-selling mac and cheese items have been recalled because of the potential danger of severe allergic reactions.
Gooder Foods Inc. issued a voluntary recall of various lots of its Goodles mac and cheese following the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) alerting undeclared allergens that would pose a “serious or life-threatening” hazard.
The recall impacts two products: Vegan Is Believin’ – Plant-Based White Cheddar With Spirals and Here Comes Truffle – Creamy Truffle Flavored Cheddar and Shells. The plant-based white cheddar item that was labeled as vegan might contain undeclared milk, whereas the truffle-flavored cheddar shells could have cashew, which was not declared on the packaging.
The company cautioned, “Individuals with an allergy or a severe sensitivity to milk and/or cashew are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they ingest these products.”
So far, eight allergic reactions have been reported by the FDA associated with the products – two with Vegan Is Believin’ and six with Here Comes Truffle. Consumer complaints were first used to identify the problem, which led to the recall.
The contaminated lots were made from April 7 through April 15 and shipped throughout the country from April 29 to Aug. 8 to wholesale distributors, food service establishments, and internet retailers. Goodles products are retailed by large chains such as Walmart, Target, and Kroger, in addition to online retailers such as Amazon and Instacart.
The affected Vegan Is Believin’ (5.25-oz. box) contains lot codes 09725N, 09825N, and 09925N, with best buy dates July 7–11, 2026 and UPC 850031990074. The Here Comes Truffle (6-oz. box) contains lot codes 10125N, 10425N, and 10525N, with best buy dates July 11, 14, and 15, 2026 and UPC 850031990159. UPC and lot codes are placed on outside packaging.
Health professionals point to the severity of these allergens. According to Healthline, allergies to nuts impact some 20 million Americans and range from rashes and hives to serious breathing problems and anaphylaxis. Milk allergies similarly initiate gastrointestinal issues, hives, and deadly anaphylactic reactions, as stated by the Mayo Clinic.
Individuals who have bought the recalled products should look at the lot codes and not consume them if they are allergic to cashews or milk. Consumers with concerns about exposure are recommended to call a healthcare provider. Gooder Foods reports it is informing distributors, retailers, and customers who might have received the recalled lots.
