Williams was beaten 18-12 by China’s Zhao Xintong in the showpiece match to end his best performance for seven years.

It was only the second time he had been beaten in the final following a defeat to Stephen Hendry in 1999.

The winnings have seen Williams climb to third in the world rankings after scooping £858,600 in the last two years.

Those earnings have allowed the three-time world champion to upgrade his car collection.

Williams took to social media to show off the work being done on his Jeep at a car dealership.

The snaps showed the black five-door vehicle as the modifications approached completion.

Alongside the post, Williams wrote: “My beast is nearly ready. @RonSkinners doing all the work to make it mint.”

He also joked with a fan in the comments that he could still get his ‘MW’ logo added to the roof of the car.

The Welsh Potting Machine’s car collection also includes a Tesla, although he had difficulties with the vehicle during the World Championship.

Williams revealed on X that the car had broken down in Sheffield whilst he was playing in the tournament.

Despite the issue, the 50-year-old went on to beat both John Higgins and Judd Trump on his way to the final.

After his defeat to Zhao, though, he was full of praise for the first ever Chinese world champion.

Taking to social media after the afternoon session on May 5, Williams wrote: “Oh well, that was tough.

“I’ve not got enough cue power to combat tough conditions like Zhao. His cue power is superb. Probably the best potter I’ve ever seen.”

Williams has already made a return to the table despite the conclusion of the 2024/25 snooker season.

He featured at the Helsinki International Cup in Finland over the weekend, beating Shaun Murphy before a defeat to Zhang Anda.
