Industries Minister P. Rajeeve on Monday suggested that Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) retain the greenery along its medians through a collective effort.

Green spaces had to be retained as far as possible amid global warming and the climate change scenario, he was quoted as saying in a release. The Minister, who inaugurated a fuel station set up by KMRL in association with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited at Kalamassery, said the Kochi metro could explore whether greenery could be retained along the median in association with other agencies.

He added that the Kochi Water Metro had gained worldwide attention. KMRL had been entrusted with the task of setting up water metros in various parts of the country, he said.

Presiding over the function, Hbi Eden, MP, said that most metros in the country were not running on profit. The Kochi metro’s move to set up the fuel station is an example of its attempt to improve the returns. The agency should initiate steps to ensure greenery along its medians, he said.
