The retreat ceremony at all three Joint Check Posts at Attari, Hussainiwala and Sadki along the Pakistan border in Punjab will be resumed from Tuesday (May 20, 2025) evening and it will be open to public from Wednesday (May 21, 2025), a Border Security Force (BSF) official said. The BSF “scaled down” the retreat ceremony last month in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
However, BSF troops will not shake hands with Pakistan Rangers and the gates will not be opened during the flag-lowering process as declared earlier, BSF officials said.
The BSF on May 8 stopped public entry for this event at these three locations, citing “public safety”.
The decision was taken a day after Operation Sindoor commenced, under which, India destroyed nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
