A 27-year-old man was hacked to death by a four-member gang near his house at Vettangulam village near Nemili town in Ranipet on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased had been identified as S. Dakshana Moorthy, who worked in a private firm at Sriperumbudur town.
As per initial inquiry, Moorthy had an argument with some youngsters from Uliyanallur over rash driving. After some people issued threats to his life, Moorthy complained to Nemili police. On Wednesday, a gang came on two-wheelers and hacked him to death near his house, the police said.
Road blocked
Angered over not acting on the complaint filed by Moorthy, relatives and residents protested by blocking the Nemili-Panapakkam main road, which connects Arakkonam and Sholingur towns with the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 44). Traffic on the stretch was hit for over three hours before the police restored normalcy.
Along with revenue officials, Superintendent of Police (Ranipet) Vivekananda Shukla, pacified the agitated crowd and assured them that the suspects would be arrested soon. Special teams have been formed to nab the accused.
