A wild elephant strayed into Padayamkallu in Balal panchayat in Kasaragod on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) night, triggering panic among residents and causing widespread damage to agricultural crops and two houses.
A herd of elephants entered the backyard of one Thottakkara George around 11 p.m. He said he initially assumed it was trees falling due to strong winds. But when he switched on the light, he saw a massive elephant standing on his veranda and others destroying crops nearby.
In a nearby house, an elephant broke through the kitchen door.
According to residents, the elephants trampled through the fields, causing a trail of destruction.
