Hunter Brown and the Houston Astros face off against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.

Hunter Brown heads into Wednesday night with a favorable opportunity to build on his position for the AL Cy Young award as he faces off against a Tampa Bay Rays offense who struggles to generate Hits at a league average rate.

Especially with his defense giving him a high level of support which helps limit the amount of contact variance in his starts.

With 16 other games taking place on Wednesday’s slate, there are plenty of prop bets to groom through which you can read a detailed breakdown of them below.

Houston Astros vs Tampa Bay Rays (1:10pm, EST)

Hunter Brown over 6.5 strikeouts: (-114) at Fanduel Sportsbook

After struggling to play at a competitive level the past few seasons, Hunter Brown has started to find his footing as the Houston Astros pitcher currently averages an ERA of 1.43, a WHIP of 0.829, and an AL leading FIP of 1.93.

His high marks on the mound stems from his ability to avoid contact while generating a high rate of Whiffs as Brown also averages less than one Hit Against and more than one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.

With the Tampa Bay Rays offense severely underwhelming in their efforts of making contact at a league average rate, Brown will be in a favorable position to generate Strikeouts. For some more exposure, escalator bet Brown’s Strikeout prop by placing smaller wagers on his alternate overs.

Brandon Lowe under 0.5 hit: (+110) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Speaking of Tampa Bay’s struggles with making contact, Brandon Lowe has played a major role in their underwhelming performance as the Rays batter currently averages less than one Hit per game, a 0.223 Batting Average, and an OPS less than 0.650.

Factor in Houston’s high marks in Defensive Efficiency and Lowe will struggle to generate a Hit on Wednesday night.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Colorado Rockies (8:40pm, EST)

Taijuan Walker under 4.5 hits allowed: (+105) at FanDuel Sportsbook

With Taijuan Walker set to take the mound, the Colorado Rockies offense are poised to get off to another slow start for the second night in a row as the Philadelphia pitcher excels at avoiding contact.

In his eight appearances, Walker is averaging an ERA of 2.62 and just 3.60 Hits per game.

Expect Walker to neutralize Colorado’s offense as he faces off against a Rockies lineup who ranks 28th in Contact Rate.

With the Rockies also ranked in the bottom three in RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage, increase your exposure on Walker by also placing a wager on him to go under 2.5 on his Earned Runs prop.

Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals (6:45pm, EST)

AJ Smith-Shawver over 4.5 Strikeouts: (-172) at FanDuel Sportsbook

AJ Smith-Shawver has managed to quickly climb up the oddsboard for the NL Rookie of the Year award as the Atlanta pitcher is averaging over one Strikeout per Inning Pitched while generating an ERA of 2.33 and a WHIP of 3.43.

Against Washington, AJ Smith-Shawver is in a favorable position to generate Strikeouts at a high rate as the Braves rookie faces off against a Nationals offense who ranks in the bottom half of the board in Team Total Hits.

Especially with the Nationals remaining aggressive in their efforts of making contact late in the count as they also rank 16th in total Strikeouts.

Austin Riley to record 2+ total bases: (-115) at FanDuel Sportsbook

While Shawver has thrived, Trevor Williams has struggled as the Washington Nationals pitcher is currently averaging an ERA 5.91, a WHIP of 1.533, and over one Hit Against per Inning Pitched.

His back end also gives him minimal support with their coverage as the Nationals defense ranks 29th overall in Defensive Efficiency.

With Williams struggling to avoid contact, as well as the Nationals defense failing to play at a competitive level, Austin Riley will have a great opportunity to record at least two total bases.

Riley has excelled at getting on base by generating Hits this season as the Braves batter averages over one Hit per game, a 0.283 batting Average, and a 0.335 On Base Percentage.
