Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, best known for her role as Lily Tucker-Pritchett on Modern Family, has come out as bisexual in a clever and heartfelt social media post during Pride Month.

Now 18, Aubrey used humor and nostalgia to make her announcement, referencing a classic scene from the hit sitcom that made her famous.

In a TikTok-style Instagram video posted on June 16, 2025, she lip-synced to audio from Modern Family, where her character Lily says, “No, I’m not. I’m gay, I’m gay,” in response to being told she’s Vietnamese. The scene ends with Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s character, Mitch, saying, “Honey, no you are not gay. You are just confused.”

Aubrey captioned the video with a simple but direct statement: “People keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi).” She added, “Happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe.”

It was a lighthearted but meaningful moment for the young star, who’s grown up in the public eye. While the video uses humor, it also represents Aubrey embracing her identity with confidence and pride. Fans and fellow celebrities quickly showed their support in the comments.

The soundbite she used from Modern Family has already been circulating on TikTok for months, especially another part where her character exclaims, “I hate Vietnam,” used in unrelated meme trends. But Aubrey’s version reclaimed the moment to highlight her truth.

Since wrapping up her role on Modern Family in 2020, Aubrey took a step back from acting. In a recent TikTok video, she explained the mental toll child acting took on her, even though she wasn’t pushed into it. “I was not forced into anything,” she said. “But it’s true. You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into as a four year old when you sign a contract to be on a show.”

She admitted the public was sometimes harsh about her acting, but added she’s found joy in performance again thanks to her high school drama program. Now, she’s actively auditioning and rediscovering her love for the craft.

Aubrey has also ventured into music, releasing her debut single Telephones and Traffic, showcasing a more personal, creative side outside of TV. Her message to fans was clear: “I am grateful for all Modern Family has given me and all of you wonderful people, and it’s time to move on to another chapter of my life.”

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons coming out as bisexual is more than just a viral moment, it’s a proud, self-assured statement from a young woman stepping into her own spotlight.
