A bank employee was allegedly robbed of a bag containing ₹40 lakh in broad daylight at Pantheerankavu in Kozhikode on Wednesday (June 11, 2025). The accused reportedly made away with the cash after he pretended to be seeking the employee’s help to retrieve the gold ornaments that he had pledged at the bank. He reportedly fled the scene on a scooter as soon as he got hold of the bag containing the money.

Aravind, an employee in a private bank at Ramanattukara had reached Pantheerankavu at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday with ₹40 lakh based on a request for assistance from Shibin Lal, a native of Kaimbalam near Mankavu. Mr. Shibin Lal informed the bank that he had gold worth ₹51 lakh pledged at the finance institution in Pantheerankavu and that he needed an additional amount of ₹40 lakh to retrieve it. He also promised that once the gold is retrieved, it shall be transferred to the bank. He also shared the picture of a card as proof that he had the gold pledged at the institution.

Pantheerankavu police have started an investigation and have found that the card shared by Mr. Shibin Lal was fake. They have shared the details of the culprit with the public for easy recognition. They have also checked CCTVs in the nearby shops and revealed that Mr. Shibin Lal was wearing a black T Shirt and a yellow raincoat and was riding a black Jupiter scooter.
