WWE RAW went up in flames on August 4 when Becky Lynch viciously embarrassed Nikki Bella with a John Cena zing that left Brooklyn’s Barclays Center audience reeling.
Coming into RAW fresh from her victory over Lyra Valkyria at SummerSlam 2025, Lynch arrived as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion. And though fans were hoping for a simple promo, what they received instead was an incendiary confrontation between two WWE legends, and a Cena name-drop that sent the tongues wagging.
Standing tall with her title in hand, Becky spoke to the New York crowd and of her commanding SummerSlam victory, which effectively shut Lyra Valkyria’s door on ever once again vying for the title, provided Lynch retains it. But before Lynch could complete her blueprint for dealing with new challengers, Nikki Bella’s theme music struck and the WWE Hall of Famer burst onto the scene.
Nikki entered the ring and tried to keep things classy, congratulating Lynch on her accomplishments and suggesting she was ready to hand over the women’s division to her. But the mood quickly flipped when Nikki accused Becky of stalling the division’s progress, calling her a disappointment and even dragging Seth Rollins into the mess. “You’re a liar,” Nikki snapped. “Just like your husband. The only difference is his lies are more believable.”
That’s when Becky stepped in with the kill shot. She clapped back, “She and Seth are WWE’s power couple”, and then turned the knife by bringing in Nikki’s infamous ex. “You and Cena could’ve made great tag champs,” Becky sneered, before dropping the dagger line: “Oh wait, you can’t see him anymore.” The insult, combined with Cena’s famous “You can’t see me” pose, sent the crowd at Barclays into a tizzy.
The line hit a chord. Bella’s romance with John Cena was a giant aspect of her reality TV and WWE life. The two had a highly publicized split in April 2018, several weeks before their planned wedding, and it obviously still generates headlines whenever its name is spoken.
Not one to let the insult pass, Nikki called out Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental title on the spot in the ring. But Becky still had a trick or two up her sleeve, she punched Nikki in the face before walking out, hinting that this rivalry is far from done. With the two women on fire, fans can look forward to their next match to be nothing but brutal.
RAW served up maximum drama with this segment, combining championship swagger, personal shots, and a legendary call-back that audiences won’t soon forget. Becky’s Cena barst was more than just brutal, it was sublime wrestling theatre, the sort that gets crowds baying and social media ablaze.
