Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Mysore Business Area (BA), on Saturday organised a consumer education workshop on “UCC and SPAM calls” at the conference hall, RTTC at T.K. Layout here.

Conducted in hybrid mode, the workshop witnessed active participation from consumers and stakeholders, aiming to raise awareness about present-day telecom frauds and preventive measures. The event was held in line with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) guidelines.

Rajendra Kumar Singh, general manager telecom, BSNL, Mysore BA, chaired the workshop.

It was conducted to educate the participants on the increasing threat posed by unsolicited commercial communication (UCC) and spam calls and the need for consumer vigilance. Ravishankar M., deputy general manager, BSNL, Mysuru, in his address, highlighted the measures taken by the BSNL for customer awareness and digital safety.

A detailed presentation on the methods to secure personal data and finances from fraudsters was made by Shankar H., retired assistant general manager (Vigilance), BSNL.

Veena S.M., officer from the Cyber Crime, Economic Offences and Narcotics (CEN) police Station, Mysuru, provided deep insights into the techniques used by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting individuals. She also shared valuable tips on recognising and avoiding common cyber frauds.

Manjunath M., deputy manager, State Bank of India, administrative office, Mysuru, discussed the measures adopted by banking institutions to curb digital fraud. He urged users to exercise caution while installing mobile applications and to avoid sharing personal or banking information with unknown sources.

Gopal Ratnam, secretary of the Consumer Care Society, Bengaluru, emphasised the importance of public awareness in fraud prevention.

Ravindra Kumar R., deputy general manager, BSNL, expressed gratitude to all speakers, participants, and attendees for their valuable contributions. The event served as a significant step toward empowering consumers with the knowledge and tools needed to combat telecom frauds and promote safe digital practices.
