Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden may not be the loudest couple in Hollywood, but their love story is one of the sweetest and most enduring.
The actress and the Good Charlotte rocker quietly tied the knot on January 5, 2015, less than a year after they first met, and today they are parents to two children while still keeping their bond as strong as ever.
Their first meeting was set up by Nicole Richie, who is married to Benji’s twin brother Joel Madden. During a dinner party hosted by Cameron in 2014, sparks flew, and the two instantly connected. While Diaz had once described herself as a “total goofball” in interviews, it was clear that Madden appreciated her authenticity and sense of humor. What started as a simple introduction quickly grew into a whirlwind romance, ending at the altar just months later.
Reflecting on that period, Cameron admitted she finally understood what people meant when they said, “You just know when you know.” On Radio Andy back in 2016, she explained how meeting Benji shifted everything for her. “Like, you’re my husband,” she said, capturing the moment she realized she had found her life partner.
Over the years, both have spoken fondly of each other but in a private, intentional way. Benji rarely posts about his personal life, but when he does, it’s always heartfelt. On their 10th anniversary this past January, he shared a rare Instagram post calling Cameron “Wife, Mommy, friend, partner, Boss, and lover,” describing their marriage as “never perfect, always real, always reliable.”
Their marriage, like any other, comes with its challenges, but the couple works through them together. Cameron revealed in 2024 on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast that she and Benji turn to therapy to strengthen their relationship. “The point is to figure out, why didn’t it work? How can I make it work? What’s my part?” she explained, emphasizing how important self-awareness and effort are in their partnership.
Parenthood has only deepened their bond. They welcomed their daughter Raddix in 2019 and more recently announced the arrival of their son Cardinal in March 2024. While both moments were shared with the public, they remain protective of their children’s privacy, choosing not to post photos online. Their Instagram announcement made it clear: “For the kids’ safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures, but he’s a really cute…”
Despite Diaz’s long career in Hollywood, she’s been vocal about keeping her personal life away from the spotlight. On the Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino podcast in 2020, she explained that her instinct has always been to protect her privacy due to the invasive tabloid culture she faced earlier in her career. Even so, she never shies away from expressing gratitude for her family life.
When she returned from her brief retirement to film the Netflix movie Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx, fans were excited. But Diaz admitted she could have easily stepped away from acting forever because her home life fulfills her in ways she never imagined. “The best thing that’s ever happened to me is finding my husband, and our partnership, and our friendship,” she said on Makeup & Friends in 2020.
And while she may have once raised eyebrows with her comment about married couples benefitting from separate bedrooms for better sleep, Cameron has always been clear: she adores her marriage and motherhood. “I love being a mother. It’s the best part of my life. I’m so grateful and so happy,” she gushed.
Benji, too, has made his love known on special occasions, calling himself “the LUCKIEST guy ALIVE” on Cameron’s birthday and often referring to her as his best friend and partner.
Ten years in, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden’s relationship shows that Hollywood love stories don’t always fade. With mutual respect, therapy, shared values, and a devotion to family, their marriage is thriving. Their journey is proof that love, when nurtured, only gets stronger with time.
