Charli XCX is officially off the market, and she did it her way, with George Daniel of The 1975 by her side and a stylish town hall wedding that couldn’t have been more Charli-coded.

On July 19, the alt-pop queen, 32, and the drummer, 35, said “I do” at Hackney Town Hall in London, surrounded by a small circle of loved ones. And yep, her signature sass showed up with her, because who else would rock a silky off-shoulder midi and a classic veil with bold black sunnies after getting hitched?

The wedding wasn’t some flashy celeb spectacle. It was low-key, intimate, and honestly perfect for a couple that’s always danced to the beat of their own synths. Charli’s parents were there, and so were George’s bandmates, though notably, Matty Healy skipped the affair. Still, it was all smiles for the newlyweds as they posed for photos outside the town hall, sharing kisses and radiating that post-ceremony glow.

Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, first gave fans a peek into her engagement to Daniel back in November 2023. She shared a photo of the ring on her private Instagram, and not long after, she dropped the full reveal on her public profile. One of the shots even included a tea tray with the engagement ring front and center, a lowkey but totally British way to pop the question, courtesy of Daniel.

And let’s not forget her caption that absolutely screamed Charli: “charli xcx and george daniel f—ing for life!!!” If that’s not peak chaotic pop girl energy, what even is?

The 1975 drummer wedding

After the engagement news broke, Charli opened up about how her now-husband has influenced her creatively. On the Spout Podcast, she talked about working on her sixth studio album Brat and how George contributed to a few parts of it. “He’s not really all over it, but we’ve got a few ideas in the works,” she said.

Turns out, it was her first time being in a relationship with someone she collaborated with musically, and yeah, it brought a whole new dynamic. “It’s cool,” she added. “There will be a couple of songs that he’s worked on with me.” But it wasn’t just about collabs, Daniel also helped her rethink her usual fast-paced creative process.

Charli admitted that The 1975’s method of sitting with songs, refining them, and letting them breathe inspired her to slow down. “That used to be part of my process, this spontaneous, instinctual thing,” she said. “Now I’ve definitely adapted to the idea of sitting on songs, reworking things, playing them to friends, going back and forth, kind of living with the songs a bit more.”

Still, working with your partner isn’t always all hearts and butterflies. In an August 2024 interview with Rolling Stone UK, Charli joked, “I’m actually such a bitch in the studio with George.” Why? Because there are no polite studio boundaries when you’re that close. “We want to impress each other, and we think we’re both really good,” she said. But she also praised Daniel for how he gives people space to breathe and work through their own creative flow.

Their love story started as a musical connection. The two first teamed up in 2021 on the dreamy track “Spinning” alongside No Rome and The 1975. Romance rumors kicked off in 2022 when Daniel supported Charli at her Saturday Night Live performance, and by May that year, she confirmed their relationship on Insta.

Now, two years later, they’ve sealed the deal, with a simple ceremony, some iconic fashion choices, and a whole lot of love. From studio sessions to wedding vows, Charli XCX and George Daniel are clearly in it for the long haul.
