Bad news for cereal lovers, three beloved Cheerios flavors have officially been discontinued, and fans are already mourning the loss.
If you’ve been scanning grocery store shelves for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch, or Honey Nut Cheerios Minis, you might want to stop the hunt. According to the popular Instagram cereal blogger @the_cerealqueen, General Mills has ended production of these fan-favorite flavors, and the brand has confirmed the news.
While some boxes might still be lingering in stores while supplies last, these flavors are no longer being produced. That means once they’re gone, they’re gone. The internet, of course, had some strong feelings. Cereal lovers on Instagram and Reddit didn’t hold back, especially when it came to their love for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios and the Honey Nut Minis. One user heartbreakingly commented, “I didn’t even know about chocolate peanut butter, but now I’m missing it already.” Another wrote, “Chocolate PB was my entire family’s favorite,” complete with a crying emoji. The Honey Nut Cheerios Minis got a lot of nostalgic love too, with one fan saying, “The mini oooooos were a fun addition.”
Not everyone was as sentimental, though. Some users took the moment to poke fun at the mini variety, saying things like, “Mini cereal is stupid… cereal is already bite-size.” That opinion didn’t sit well with everyone and was quickly downvoted by passionate cereal fans who are still grieving.
Meanwhile, Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch didn’t get as much of an outcry, despite the_cerealqueen calling it “so underrated.” Over on Reddit’s r/cereal community, fans were either sad or trying to make peace with the news. “Phew, my Frosted Cheerios are safe,” one user said, while another joked, “I do feel bad for that one person that loves the medley mix though.” It seems every cereal has its superfan, even the discontinued ones.
This isn’t the first time iconic foods have quietly disappeared off shelves. The U.S. Sun has been tracking the vanishing and returning of popular grocery items. Walmart, for example, recently took heat for axing a well-loved drink. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola is trying to earn back points with consumers by bringing back a classic soda flavor, and over at Trader Joe’s, shoppers believe a turkey treat might’ve quietly been pulled without warning.
The loss of these discontinued flavors is a reminder that no cereal is safe, not even those you think will be around forever. Whether it’s nostalgia or just everyday breakfast routines, these products clearly meant a lot to people. If you’re lucky enough to spot any of the three discontinued Cheerios flavors on shelves, it might be worth grabbing them before they vanish for good.
