American Vogue has appointed Chloe Malle as Head of Editorial Content, effective immediately, in a significant change for the iconic fashion magazine.

Malle will oversee the creative and editorial vision of the U.S. brand and become a member of Vogue’s 10-strong network of Heads of Editorial Content. She will be directly responsible to Anna Wintour, Vogue’s Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director.

Malle, now the editor of Vogue.com and co-host of the podcast The Run-Through, was looking forward to taking on the job. “Fashion and media both are changing at breakneck pace, and I am so excited, and in awe, to be a part of it,” she stated. “I am also incredibly lucky to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor.”

For Wintour, the hiring is a pivotal moment in Vogue’s continued transformation. “When the question of hiring to edit American Vogue arose and allowing me to focus more intensely on Vogue’s multidimensional growth throughout its worldwide audiences and events such as the Met Gala and Vogue World, I knew I had one shot to get it right,” Wintour wrote to employees. “Chloe has demonstrated repeatedly that she is able to balance American Vogue’s long, sole history and its future at the front lines of the new.”

A Vogue Veteran With Broad Editorial Experience

Malle began at Vogue in 2011 as Social Editor, where she was responsible for covering weddings and society and was also a contributor to pieces on politics, fashion, health, and lifestyle. Between 2016 and 2023, she was a Contributing Editor, handling special projects and writing features. She has also written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, and WWD.

In 2023, Malle led Vogue.com to record growth. Direct traffic doubled, engagement rose in all key metrics, and digital storytelling grew through efforts such as editor-curated newsletters, the annual “Dogue” issue, and the Vogue Vintage Guide. She also deepened Vogue’s Weddings section, boosting content by 30% and growing audience engagement.

“I have spent my career at Vogue in jobs on every platform, from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media,” said Malle. “Vogue has already defined me, now I’m thrilled at the thought of defining Vogue.”

Anna Wintour On Malle’s Appointment

Wintour lauded Malle as Vogue’s “secret weapon,” citing her capacity to reconcile extensive fashion know-how with an awareness of larger cultural changes. “Just like the finest designers, she has a sense of fashion’s big picture, fashion’s function in shaping not merely what appears on the runway but the evolving texture of contemporary life,” Wintour explained.

Emphasizing Malle’s work ethic and imagination, Wintour continued: “Chloe has worked as many late nights as anyone at Condé Nast, without sacrificing a lick of creative imagination or her sense of humor. Her peers cherish her startling intelligence but also her kindness. Her desk is a source of wisdom and infectious joy.”

Wintour reiterated that the future of Vogue America is also a matter of leadership that fuses tradition with innovation. “At a time of change both within fashion and beyond it, we have to continue to be both the standard-bearer and the boundary-pushing leader. Chloe has demonstrated that she can find that balance.”

Looking Ahead

As Vogue goes on to chart fashion, culture, and digital media shifts, Malle’s appointment sends a message of alignment with changing audiences while ensuring the magazine’s legendary status remains intact. With her editorial acumen, digital knowledge, and close affinity with the Vogue brand, she is best placed to steer the brand into its future.
