Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh on Saturday said that Mondelez International group has agreed to procure cocoa at ₹500 per kilogram in the Godavari region.
The Minister interacted with the farmers, traders and other stakeholders in the wake of protests by farmers for remunerative price for cocoa. “The cocoa farmers have withdrawn their protest following talks that guaranteed ₹500 price for a kilogram. We are committed to ensure that the cocoa grown in the Godavari region is procured by the companies,” Mr. Durgesh said.
In the East Godavari district alone, an estimated 2,000 metric tonnes of cocoa was produced and half of it had already been procured by Mondelez International, the Minister said. East Godavari Joint Collector S. Chinna Ramudu, East Godavari Horticulture Officer B. Sujatha, Mondelez International Assistant Manager K. Vijay Kumar were also present.
