The common Mormon name is an allusion to the
polygamy formerly practiced by members of the
Mormon The common Mormon has three different
females, a fact that could only have been
observed
in the field, and this they did in India. The
name
obviously reflected the … Mormon sect in
America, which as we know, practiced polygamy.
Those who are fans of Sherlock Holmes would
surely
remember “The Study in Scarlet” where information
about Mormon practices are extensively given by
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The scientific name is constructed from the
Latin word for butterfly-papilio and the Greek
word for many-poly. They have three mimic forms
1.Cyrus that mimics male butterflies, 2.Stichius
that mimic Common rose and 3.Romulus mimicking
Crimson rose. In mimic also the female of cyrus
form resembling normal male is fast in movement
with rapid strides but females that mimic
poisonous butterflies – Stitches and Romulus are
slow in speed and leisurely in stride. In
addition
there are two more mimics found in Andaman and
Nicobar in the same species.
