New Delhi: Operation Sindoor got support from the world over, but the “valour of the heroes of my country did not get the support of the Congress”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Tuesday in Parliament as he launched a blistering attack on the opposition party, saying that it should stop giving a clean chit to Pakistan.

“We got the support of the world… countries, but it is unfortunate that the might of my country’s heroes did not get the support of the Congress. After the terrorist attack on 22 April, within 3–4 days these people were in a frenzy and started asking where did the 56-inch chhati go, where did Modi get lost, Modi has failed—what fun were they having—they thought, wah bazi maar li,” said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister, while speaking in the Lok Sabha Tuesday, said the Opposition was playing politics even in the “killings of innocent people in Pahalgam”.

“For their petty politics, they were targeting me and questioning Operation Sindoor. But their (Congress’s) chichorapan (pettiness) was damaging the morale of the security forces of the country,” said Modi.

Attacking the Congress and its allies, the PM said in today’s warfare, information and narratives play a very important role and alleged that Congress and its allies have become spokespersons of the propaganda spread by Pakistan.

“Games are played to weaken the morale of the army and narratives are built using AI. Unfortunately, Congress and its allies have become spokespersons of such propaganda of Pakistan,” he said.

Modi said while on one hand India is moving rapidly towards “self-reliance”, on the other hand, the Congress is becoming dependent on Pakistan for issues. “Unfortunately, Congress has to import issues from Pakistan!”

The PM said, “Congress’s trust is run by Pakistan’s remote control…Congress makes its new member say that ‘Operation Sindoor’ was a tamasha. This is a sin of throwing acid on a horrific terrorist incident in which 26 people were killed.”

The PM said the country was surprised the Congress had given a clean chit to Pakistan and was questioning whether the terrorists of Pahalgam were from Pakistan. “Give us proof of this (they say). Pakistan is also demanding the same thing as the Congress,” the PM said.

“Opposing the armed forces, negativity for armed forces has been the old attitude of the Congress… Pull up all of Pakistan’s statements and the statements of those who are opposing us here, they are exactly the same with full stop and comma… The country is surprised that Congress has given a clean chit to Pakistan. They dare to ask for proof that the Pahalgam attackers were from Pakistan,” Modi said, referring to the statement of former Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

During the course of the discussion, Modi also accused the Congress of compromising on national security. He said that the country was suffering the consequences of all the decisions taken after India’s Independence and targeted former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. “Congress has always compromised on national security. Those who are asking today why PoK was not taken back should first tell us whose government gave Pakistan the opportunity to occupy PoK. The answer is clear,” he said.

The Prime Minister further pointed out, “Whenever I mention Nehru, the Congress and its system get rattled…Lamhon ne khata ki, sadiyon ne saza paayi. Till date, the country is suffering the consequences of all the decisions taken after Independence.”

The PM also launched a scathing attack on the Congress for indulging in appeasement and vote bank politics and said it was this soft stance that led to terrorism. Without taking the name of senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, the PM said a senior Congress leader cried after the Batla House encounter.

“During the Batla House encounter, a senior Congress leader had tears in her eyes and this matter was taken to every corner to get votes. In 2001, after the Parliament attack, a senior Congress leader had said that Afzal Guru (the mastermind of the attack) should be given the benefit of doubt,” he claimed.

Citing the Mumbai terror attack, the PM said, for vote bank politics, the Congress was trying to prove saffron terrorism. “The Congress tried to prove the 26/11 attack as saffron terror. They even said that Hindu outfits are a bigger threat than the Lashkar-e-Taiba. For appeasement, Congress weakened laws related to terrorism,” Modi said.

He then said that those lecturing the government on diplomacy should see their own track record. “Following the 26/11 attacks, the Congress-led government, bowing to foreign pressure, initiated dialogue with Pakistan within a few weeks of the incident. Despite Pakistan’s continued sponsorship of attacks on Indian soil, the UPA government refrained from expelling any Pakistani diplomats from India. It never revoked Pakistan’s Most Favoured Nation status,” he added.

Responding to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s comment on the timing of Operation Mahadev, PM said it shows the mentality of the Opposition. “Yesterday our security forces carried out Operation Mahadev and killed all three terrorists of the Pahalgam attack. But yesterday it was asked here why it happened today—was Monday of the month of Sawan selected for the operation? For the last several weeks, it was being asked what happened to the terrorists of Pahalgam and when the terrorists were killed, why did it happen only yesterday… what is the condition of these people…”
