Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph has sought a judicial probe into the alleged corruption in the construction of the national highway, which, he said, led to earth caving in and cracks developing in many places in the State.

Opening a protest meeting organised by the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) here on Monday, he also alleged that the State government, however, was opposed to such an investigation. The protest was held outside a regional office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Mr. Joseph claimed that Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas was yet to visit Kooriyad in Malappuram, where cracks were noticed during the construction of the national highway. Mr. Riyas, who wanted to claim credit for the construction of the national highway in the State, was scared of criticising the Centre. The Congress leader alleged that the Minister was not blaming the Union government because he needed its help in settling a corruption case involving his family.

Shafi Parambil, MP, and K. Praveenkumar, DCC president, among others, were present.
