The police have arrested two private resort operators as part of the continuing investigation into the death of a 24-year-old woman tourist under a collapsed tent at 900 Kandi, a prominent eco tourism spot in Wayanad district, Kerala.

The two – K.P. Swachand,28 and K.K. Anurag, 26 – were nabbed and remanded in judicial custody on Thursday following a preliminary investigation report that exposed the alleged safety rule violations in managing the tourism facility.

Police sources said the two were working as manager and supervisor respectively at Tentgram resort at 900 Kandi near Meppadi. They were charged under Section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) under the Bharatiya Byaya Sanhita.

It was around 1 a.m. on Thursday that Nishma, a 24-year-old tourist from Malappuram district, lost her life after the weak tent collapsed on her. The preliminary investigation had found that the makeshift tent constructed using wooden poles and thatched with dry grass was crumbled, unable to withstand the impact of heavy raining. Three other tourists also had sustained injuries in the incident.
