Fans of the record-breaking girl group were left buzzing on August 31 after the official X account (previously Twitter) of the group made its first post in over seven years.

The post – merely reading “#FifthHarmonyFollowSpree” – quickly fueled speculation regarding whether a much-speculated reunion would once again be underway.

The sudden update was the group’s first social media move since July 2018, when they celebrated member Ally Brooke’s birthday after being disbanded earlier that year. Fifth Harmony – who have since included Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane following the departure of Camila Cabello in 2016 – left everyone excited and baffled.

“Are they hacked once more or is this fr?” a user inquired. “I don’t get what’s going on… but I think I’m good with it,” said another user. Another added, “WAITTTT ARE Y’ALL REUNITING LIKE FR? IT WASNT JUST A RUMOR?”

Previous reunion clues

The mystery message follows less than a year since Brooke and Jane sparked reunion rumors at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, where they confirmed discussions of a reunion had occurred.

We’ll see. we’re not sure,” Brooke joked when directly questioned about the possibility. Jane contributed, “Our music was highly influential at the time, and I feel like it got passed over. Now that it’s reemerging again, it just proves our music speaks for itself.”

Fifth Harmony’s legacy

Created during the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012, Fifth Harmony subsequently became world famous. Their first album Reflection (2015) included the popular single “Worth It”, which was their first top 20 Billboard Hot 100 hit. They then went on to release “Work From Home” with Ty Dolla $ign, which reached No. 4 in 2016 and cemented their position in pop music history.

But in December 2016, the group released Camila Cabello’s departure, and rumors about their future began. Cabello emerged for a successful solo career, most recently with her 2024 release C,XOXO, debuting at No. 13 on the Billboard 200.

By 2018, Fifth Harmony disbanding was official, with each member pursuing solo careers. During a November 2023 Billboard interview, Brooke intimated that a reunion wasn’t out of the question: “We’re women now… I think some sort of reunion may happen.”

What’s next?

For now, the group has not confirmed whether their sudden return to social media signals new music, a tour, or simply fan engagement. But for the millions of devoted Harmonizers, the possibility of seeing Fifth Harmony together again is enough to spark excitement.
