The Rajaji Nagar traffic police have registered an FIR against Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials and contractors after a 28-year-old scooter rider was critically injured in an accident owing to a bad patch of road on June 4.

The victim, Manjunath B.G., was returning home when he skidded off his scooter and sustained severe injuries on Dr. Rajkumar Road. He was rushed to a private hospital where he is admitted in the ICU ward.

B.G. Ganesh, father of Manjunath, visited the scene of the accident and found that a road was dug up to lay pipes. “The patchy road work done by BBMP caused the accident,“ Mr. Ganesh alleged.

The road poses a threat to motorists and pedestrians, and needs immediate action, he said. Mr. Ganesh added that he had spent ₹5 lakh in medical expenses so far and is unable to foot the bill further.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against BBMP officials and contractors, charging them under section 125 (endangering human life or personal safety through rashness and negligence) on Monday for further investigation.
