Former Team GB boxer Georgia O’Connor has lost her brave battle with cancer.

O’Connor, 25, was an up-and-coming undefeated professional boxer having won Commonwealth Youth gold in 2017.

She made her professional debut in 2021, outpointing Ester Konecna after six rounds in Newcastle.

‘Geo’ then racked up two more victories in the ring before her battle with cancer began.

O’Connor first revealed she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in January this year as the whole combat sports world came together to offer their support.

Tributes have since poured in following the news of the 25-year-old’s passing on Thursday.

England Boxing, the national governing body of sport for boxing in England, said: “We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Georgia O’Connor.

“A gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur boxing community, she won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Worlds & European Championships.

“Our thoughts are with her loved ones.”

Olympic bronze medallist and British heavyweight boxer Frazer Clarke said: “RIP Champ,” in response to a tribute from IFLTV Boxing.

Former UFC star Molly McCann responded: “At peace now champ! Your legacy will live on through the young girls you’ve inspired.”

Veteran pro boxer Kane Baker added crying emojis, while former undisputed world champion Chantelle Cameron wrote: “So sad.”

Harlem Eubank, the first cousin of Chris Eubank Jr, reacted with a white heart emoji on an Instagram post from Ring Magazine that said: “The Ring is saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Georgia Cardinali (née Georgia O’Connor) aged just 25.

“Cardinali was a promising 3-0 prospect having won multiple youth amateur medals, and heroically battled cancer in recent months.

“Our deepest sympathies are with her friends and family at this time.”

Super-middleweight Joe Laws wrote: “Fighter till the end rest easy bro,” alongside a picture of the pair.

Meanwhile, Jack Catterall’s manager Sam Jones said: “Life can be so cruel.

“Such a strong amazing person Rest easy Georgia.”

O’Connor had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), which is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

She married her partner, Adriano, only two weeks before her death.

The 25-year-old posted a picture of her ring and wrote: “The day I married the love of my life.”
