Four houses were destroyed and 40 were damaged in Palakkad in the heavy rain that lashed the district since Saturday afternoon, according to district administration officials.

At Kulukkallur in Pattambi taluk, 14 houses were damaged. At Koppam, 11 houses were damaged. In Palakkayam village of Mannarkkad taluk, one house was damaged when two houses were damaged in Agali village of Attappady taluk.

In Palakkad taluk, one house each was damaged at Kodumbu, Mankara and Akathethara, and eight houses at Mannoor. One house was damaged in Nellaya village in Ottapalam taluk.

The four houses destroyed in the rain were at Malampuzha (two), Kulakkallur and Mannoor.

The district received an average 78.89 mm rain in the 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday morning.
