Halle Bailey is making headlines not for her role in “The Little Mermaid” but for a serious and heartbreaking turn in her personal life.

The 25-year-old actress and singer has reportedly been granted temporary sole physical and legal custody of her 16-month-old son after accusing her ex, rapper and influencer DDG, of domestic abuse. The custody order, according to Page Six, will remain in place until a hearing scheduled for June 4.

This major legal step comes with a temporary restraining order against DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. Halle filed for custody without informing him in advance, stating in court documents that she feared “the violence would reoccur” and worried that DDG might try to take their child “out of the area.” Under the terms of the protection order, DDG must stay at least 100 yards away from both Halle and their son at all times, which includes her home and vehicle. He’s also prohibited from making any direct contact with her and has no visitation rights until the court decides otherwise.

It’s a messy and very public escalation of a relationship that was already under scrutiny. Halle and DDG had called it quits just over six months ago, but things clearly didn’t end on peaceful terms. In newly obtained legal documents shared by PEOPLE, Halle detailed her allegations of emotional and verbal abuse that have spilled over onto social media. She said DDG often uses his large online following to target and harass her, stirring up drama and spreading false accusations.

Halle stated, “Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts badmouthing me to his several million fans.” She explained how DDG’s claims that she’s keeping their son from him or seeing other men have led to her being harassed and threatened online. “He goes ‘live,’ ranting about me and alleging that I am keeping Halo from him. This is false. I have requested a set schedule, which he refuses,” she said.

The abuse, according to Halle, wasn’t just emotional. She backed her claims with photographic evidence, including a chipped front tooth and a large bruise on her upper arm. She told the court, “I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer.” These words make it crystal clear she’s trying to draw a hard boundary not just for herself, but for her son’s safety too.

While DDG hasn’t made a public statement since the documents were released, his social media activity in recent weeks has hinted at tension between the two. And with Halle being one of the rising stars of her generation, recently starring in The Color Purple and making waves in The Little Mermaid, it’s hard to imagine the emotional toll this very public battle must be taking on her behind the scenes.

The court’s decision to grant temporary sole custody and issue a restraining order shows that the claims are being taken seriously. This is no PR stunt, these are serious accusations backed by visible injuries and documented fear for safety. Halle Bailey and DDG’s custody battle is now under legal review, and everything hinges on what happens in court on June 4.

Until then, Halle has full custody of Halo and control of their space, free from DDG’s influence, at least for the time being. For fans who have followed their story, the situation serves as a sobering reminder that celebrity lives aren’t immune to the same kinds of toxic relationships that happen out of the spotlight. Halle Bailey’s fight for custody and protection is an example of someone stepping up to protect not just herself, but her child, no matter how famous or successful she may be.
