Hundreds participated in the human wall against drug menace organised by the Ernakulam district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] here on Tuesday.

The wall of resistance against narcotic substances was organised at 15 centres in the district. P.K. Sreemathi, member of the party’s central committee, critic M.K. Sanoo, and Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram were among those who participated in the programme, according to a release.

The People’s Collective against Drugs formed by the party had visited around 3.5 lakh homes in the district to spread the message against drugs. The samithis formed to organise campaigns against the sale and use of drugs will extend support to the government’s efforts to curb the menace, said S. Satheesh, district secretary of the party. Various cultural programmes and bike-cycle rallies were held in the district as part of the event.
