Telangana in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that 17 people were trapped in the fire accident which occurred near Gulzar House in Old City of Hyderabad on Sunday (May 18, 2025) morning. The official number of deaths is yet to be known. Four joint families lived in the building. Mr. Prabhakar, who reached the spot, said that a short circuit was the cause of the fire accident.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy spoke with the families there and assured them that all those trapped in the fire would be rescued. He directed the Fire Services Department Director General Y. Nagi Reddy to closely monitor the rescue efforts and officials to take all necessary measures to save the families trapped in the fire. The Chief Minister enquired with the Fire Services and Police Department about the steps being taken.
Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy too reached the spot and discussed with senior officials handling the situation regarding rescue and relief operations, and urged them to provide immediate medical support and help.
“The Govt. of India will provide necessary support and assistance. I request the State Govt. to take all necessary precautions including fire safety audit of buildings, to avoid such mishaps in future. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he posted on X.
