PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday urged the Rural Development Department to increase the age limit for the posts of clerk, driver and night security guard from 30 to 39 for those belonging to the Backward Classes and the Most Backward Classes.
Though the Rural Development Department had stated that the posts that had been vacant for less than three years could be filled, the Most Backward Classes and the Backward Classes had been meted out a ‘social injustice’, Dr. Anbumani said in a statement.
“The recruitment for these posts under the Directorate of Rural Development was last carried out in 2019. When the notification for the same was published in November 2019, the maximum age limit for the general category was fixed at 30. A relaxation of two years was provided for the Backward Classes and the Most Backward Classes, and five years for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes,” he said.
“Considering that the recruitment would be held after almost seven years, the age limit for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes has been increased from 35 to 42. This is a welcome step. Similarly, the age limit for the general category should have been increased to 37, and for the Backward Classes and the Most Backward Classes to 39. But the Tamil Nadu government has not done so,” Dr. Anbumani said.
