Diddy’s trial is heating up, and things might come to a head sooner than expected.

After two explosive weeks filled with emotional testimonies, Judge Arun Subramanian says the trial could wrap up by July 4. That’s right, just in time for fireworks, but the courtroom’s already lit with drama.

This past week, jurors heard from several of the biggest names tied to Sean “Diddy” Combs, including his former assistant George Kaplan, a makeup artist who worked closely with both Combs and his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, and, in a surprise appearance, rapper Kid Cudi himself.

Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, dropped a bombshell when he took the stand on Thursday, May 22. He testified about a short period when he dated Ventura during a rough patch in her stormy relationship with Combs. But the shock didn’t stop there. Cudi also revealed a chilling moment from 2011 when Combs allegedly broke into his home. According to the rapper, Diddy’s then-assistant Capricorn Clark tipped him off about the break-in, telling Cudi she was waiting outside while Combs and another associate were inside the house. Cudi told the court Clark seemed “very scared.”

The trial has been full of intense emotional weight, but the judge is making sure it stays on track. He told the jury to avoid talking about the case over the long weekend and jokingly suggested they focus on basketball instead: “Watch the Knicks avenge their Game One loss.”

The next round of witnesses is already lined up, and it’s only adding to the anticipation. Capricorn Clark, the same woman mentioned during Cudi’s testimony, is expected to testify next week. Representatives from both the Los Angeles Police Department and Fire Department will also be taking the stand, likely shedding more light on some of the darker accusations in the case.

Diddy, who’s pleaded not guilty, is facing serious charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The trial has been closely watched not just because of the nature of the charges, but also because of the celebrity names involved. And if these past few days are any indication, next week could be even more explosive.

Judge Subramanian is pushing for things to wrap by Independence Day, but with the way this case is going, it’s anyone’s guess whether the court will get a clean finish. What’s clear is that the trial has already become one of the most talked-about courtroom dramas of the year, and it’s nowhere near done serving headlines.
