Bryce Dallas Howard isn’t ruling out another run in the Jurassic World franchise.
The 44-year-old actress, who played Claire Dearing across the Jurassic World trilogy, says she’s keeping the door open for a future return, especially with the next installment, Jurassic World: Rebirth, just around the corner.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Howard said, “I think that the door is always open.” She reflected on her experience working on Jurassic World: Dominion alongside legacy cast members from the original Jurassic Park, but acknowledged that the real star of the franchise isn’t the human characters.
“This is a story about dinosaurs and what if dinosaurs and human beings coexisted? It is not about a specific set of characters,” Howard added.
Even though she may not be part of the next movie, she’s a fan of where the franchise is headed. “For myself as a fan, I am so excited for Jurassic World: Rebirth. I’m going to be there in the theater opening day,” she said. “They have an amazing cast. I mean, Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey. It’s going to be absolutely fantastic. So I’m excited.”
Jurassic World: Rebirth, set to release this July, introduces a new character, Zora Bennett (played by Johansson), who leads a covert operation to stop a rogue biotech group from releasing weaponized dinosaurs on the world. As prehistoric threats spread, she discovers a chilling connection to the original Jurassic legacy.
Director Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is bringing a darker tone to this reboot. He told Vanity Fair that he wants to tap back into the horror elements that made Jurassic Park so iconic. “Jurassic Park is a horror film in the witness protection program,” he said, recalling how terrifying the original T. rex attack scene was as a kid.
Edwards explained that fear is core to the appeal of these films. “There’s something very primal that’s buried deep inside everybody,” he said. “As mammals, we evolved this fear of the bigger animal that’s going to come one day and maybe kill us or our family.”
For Rebirth, Edwards dug into classic sci-fi and horror influences to create a terrifying new dinosaur. “You get a big, massive pot and pour in your favorite monsters,” he said. “Some [Star Wars beast] Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger [Alien designer] went in there, a little T. rex went in there …”
Whether Howard returns or not, the next phase of the Jurassic saga looks to be a wild ride. But for now, fans can count on her being in the audience, just like the rest of us.
