A case was booked against an IT company for allegedly defrauding a number of youth across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs.
Between 100-120 victims gathered at the Gachibowli police station on Thursday demanding action against the management of both the company and the consultancy firm responsible for recruitment.
The scam came to light following a complaint by a 32-year-old man from Ameenpur, Sangareddy district, alleging he was duped of ₹3 lakh by the company.
The victim was contacted by an individual claiming to be an HR representative of a consultancy based in Madhapur. The representative promised him a job through a staged recruitment process.
Over time, the victim paid a total of ₹3 lakh in phases as placement and processing fee. He was then referred to a purported IT company located in Gachibowli, where he received an official-looking offer letter, a welcome kit, and a laptop. He was also made to undergo a work-from-home training phase and even received a salary for the first month, adding to the illusion of authenticity.
However, the situation took a turn when subsequent salary payments were stopped. The victim attempted to visit both the consultancy and the company, only to find their offices shut and all contact numbers inactive.
Based on a complaint by 15 members joint representation, a case was booked under the charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust, an official from the Gachibowli police said. As per initial investigation, the company charged between ₹1.5 and ₹3 lakh. Further investigation is underway to trace the accused.
