He had never won a game at this tournament before, but now he’s looking like a contender to go all the way.

Draper is on an impressive streak of going deep in events, which has seen him fly up the world rankings to No.5.

Unseeded Bublik now stands in his way as he looks to potentially set up a quarter-final clash with Jannik Sinner.

Draper vs Bublik: Head-to-head

Draper and Bublik have met twice before on the ATP Tour.

Their first meeting came in 2021 as the Brit came out on top, winning 7-6, 7-6 at Queens Club in London.

Then, last year, they clashed again in the semi-finals of the Adelaide International in Australia.

He beat the Kazakh 7-6, 6-4 on his way to the final of the event, in which he lost to Jiri Lehecka.

Their head-to-head record will leave Draper confident of securing a spot in the French Open quarter-finals.

But it will also provide motivation for Bublik to get his own back after two defeats in two matches so far.

Draper vs Bublik: What has been said?

Speaking after reaching the last 16 of the French Open, Draper said: “I played good. The conditions were quite difficult.

“I felt like the first set was really key and then I kind of got on top of him a little bit and I felt like I used my forehand well.

“I served pretty well and mentally it was a good performance from me. The ball was getting up more and it suits me, the faster conditions.

“Either way I’ll be ready for my next round. Happy to be in second week and hopefully more to come.”

On facing Draper, Bublik said: “Jack for me is insane.

“I mean, last year the guy is 40 in the world. This year he is top five in the world,” said Bublik.

“That’s a crazy achievement. He doesn’t seem to stop, so I mean, what do I have to do to beat him? I don’t know.”
