Joe Jonas is getting real about how rough dating felt after splitting from Sophie Turner.

The 35-year-old singer recently admitted that diving back into the dating world post-divorce wasn’t smooth sailing, it was actually “scary and intimidating.” After ending his four-year marriage with the Game of Thrones actress in 2023, with whom Joe shares two daughters, Willa and Delphine, he took some time before trying to open his heart again.

Even though he briefly dated model Stormi Bree in 2024, Joe’s not pretending like he had it all figured out. While discussing his new solo track “Only Love” on a TalkShopLive stream, he revealed that the whole idea of dating again made him nervous. “I was seeing somebody at the time, and I was kind of having this idea of dating again. It was really scary and intimidating,” Joe jonas said. It wasn’t just about meeting someone new, it was about emotionally resetting after such a huge life change.

He went on to explain that love has changed shape for him. “Love takes different shapes and forms, and I was rediscovering what that was.” That rediscovery turned into the inspiration behind “Only Love,” a song he originally wrote for the Jonas Brothers. But after playing it back, he realized the track hit too close to home, it was his story, not the band’s. “I sat Kevin and Nick down. I said, ‘Hey, look, I would like the opportunity to see what this is like for me. I know it could be Brothers, but I also keep seeing my own life when I hear it’.”
The song itself has a pretty funny origin story. Joe was talking to the person he was seeing at the time, opening up about how dating again made him anxious. Their response? “Well, it’s only love.” That one-liner stuck with him. “I was like, ‘Well, when you put it that way…’ So we wrote a song about it.”

The experience wasn’t just some casual fling for him, though, it meant something deeper. “Like, it was not a big deal, but it was a big deal to me and a big deal to them, too. But it’s okay to take a leap of faith and just try again and put yourself out there.” That line alone shows where his mindset is right now, open, vulnerable, but still cautiously hopeful.

It’s kind of refreshing to hear a celebrity be this candid about the messiness of moving on. Joe didn’t sugarcoat it or act like he bounced back overnight. He leaned into the discomfort, used it as fuel, and turned it into music. And as for the Jonas Brothers? No drama there. Kevin and Nick gave him their blessing. “Nick actually went, ‘Well damn, I really like this song, so I guess you can have it.’… They’re very generous, and thank God they said yes.”

So while Joe Jonas might’ve been scared to date again, he clearly found a way to process those feelings in a healthy way, and share them with fans who might be going through the same thing. Whether or not “Only Love” becomes a chart-topper, it’s already a win for Joe, who’s learning how to love again, on his own terms.
