Joseph Parker will not return until after Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch with Daniel Dubois.

The New Zealander looked set to get his shot at Dubois’ IBF title back in February, but the Briton was forced to withdraw after contracting an illness.

Parker is now in the mandatory position with the WBO to get the opportunity to challenge for Usyk’s belts.

They have made an exception on their order, to allow for Usyk to meet Dubois in a huge sequel on July 19 at Wembley Stadium.

And as a result, promoter Frank Warren has revealed Parker will not fight until September, as he will wait to see the outcome of the clash.

“I spoke with Joseph and his team and he will fight again in September,” Warren told talkSPORT’s Fight Night.

“We will then wait and see the outcome of the rematch between Usyk and Dubois.

“The WBO have said that the winner of that fight will have to do their mandatory.

“He is the interim champion so he is in a good position, as he can fight for the four belts.

“Or if the winner vacates, then he will be elevated and become a full world champion.”

Parker has been waiting patiently for a shot at the crown, having put together an impressive six-fight win streak since losing to Joe Joyce in September 2022.

He impressively stopped previous ‘boogeyman’ of the division Martin Bakole, who replaced Dubois at late notice.

The 33-year-old has also recently beaten Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, and he is considered a very dangerous threat to the current elite.

But he still faces a longer wait until after the huge event before discovering his fate.

Dubois has stated on multiple occasions he is willing to reschedule his battle with Parker.

Whereas Usyk appears to have alternative preferred options should he continue on in his career and beat ‘Dynamite’.

He said: “Right now my focus is on Daniel Dubois and that is what I am working towards.

“But, for my last fight, I have two options. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. I’d like Tyson Fury.”

Fury has indicated he’d be open to the trilogy, which would potentially leave Parker out in the cold should he win.

But the ‘Gypsy King’ has yet to officially announce that he will be making a U-turn on his retirement.
