Kevin Jonas, best known as the eldest member of the Jonas Brothers, got candid about parenting on Father’s Day this year. The 37-year-old musician and father of two daughters, Alena, 11, and Valentina, 8, says that raising girls is something he never imagined he’d navigate without serious help. And that help comes in the form of his wife, Danielle Jonas.
In an interview with E! News, Kevin admitted that growing up with brothers, Joe and Nick, didn’t exactly prepare him for life as a “girl dad.” “It’s really special, but it’s also unknown territory for me,” he said. “Which is why I sometimes respond and react to situations like it would have been with boys. Then my wife looks at me like, ‘No, the exact opposite of what you’re doing, we need to do that!’”
He didn’t hesitate to credit Danielle for helping him find his way. “I could not do it without her,” he said. “She’s the guiding light in our family.”
Parenthood has taken Kevin into worlds he never expected, like Disney musicals and tween pop culture. As a former Disney star himself, Kevin finds it funny that his own children are now fans of some of his past work. “They love Camp Rock,” he shared, referring to the hit 2008 Disney Channel movie he starred in with his brothers and Demi Lovato.
But even that doesn’t top their current obsession. “Camp Rock is huge,” Kevin said. “It’s just not as big as Descendants or, especially now, Zombies. Zombies is coming out with their new movie in June, and I know this because I’m a huge girl dad who’s gonna bring them to the concert tour and do the whole thing.”
Being a dad has also spilled over into Kevin’s professional life. He recently worked on a Christmas special, and his daughters actually got to be a part of it. According to him, they had a blast filming. “They’re actually in the film, and they had a really good time,” he said.
His oldest daughter, Alena, is already catching the acting bug. “She started to see what it’s like on set,” Kevin said. “She said to me, ‘I really want to be an actress.’”
Still, Kevin’s taking a chill approach to his kids’ future careers. “She really enjoyed it,” he said, “but I will never push them to do it.”
At the end of the day, Kevin Jonas says being a father is the most rewarding part of his life, but he knows he couldn’t do it without Danielle by his side. As he puts it, she’s the glue that holds their family together.
