Kevin Parker surprised fans over the weekend by dropping a brand-new, unreleased Tame Impala track during a secret DJ set in Barcelona.
After the official end of Primavera Sound on Saturday night, June 7, the Australian musician took over Nitsa Club for a spontaneous after-party performance.
The intimate crowd had no idea what they were in for until Kevin grabbed the mic and casually asked, “Er, you guys wanna hear a new song?” After the cheers, he continued, “You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise. There’s no going back from this point on. Alright, let’s do it. Get comfortable.”
And just like that, the club got the first listen of a fresh Tame Impala track. The song’s title hasn’t been revealed yet, but reports say it was heavy on beats and gave off the dreamy, psychedelic vibe fans expect from Kevin’s project. No official word yet on whether the track is part of a new album or a standalone single, but it’s clear that Parker isn’t done creating.
Tame Impala hasn’t dropped a full studio album since 2020’s The Slow Rush, so this preview has fans buzzing about a possible new release in the works. While Kevin Parker has kept relatively quiet on what’s next, this DJ set might be the first real sign of something cooking.
In 2024, Parker made headlines for selling his entire music catalogue to Sony Music Publishing. The deal includes everything from his Tame Impala releases to collaborations with big names like Rihanna, Mick Jagger, Gorillaz, and Mark Ronson. The full terms of the deal weren’t made public, but it covers both past and future work.
At the time, Parker shared, “The idea of passing on ownership of my songs is one that I don’t think about very lightly, at all. They are the fruit of my blood, sweat and creativity over all the years I’ve been a recording artist and songwriter so far.”
He added that he trusts Sony completely, saying, “I don’t think my songs could be in any safer hands than Sony’s, and I’m excited for the future and happy I can keep working with them on whatever the future brings.”
Now with new material already in the mix and a loyal global fanbase hungry for more, Tame Impala’s next chapter may be just around the corner. Whether this new song is a teaser or a full shift into a new era, one thing’s for sure-Kevin Parker still knows how to surprise a crowd.
Keep your eyes and ears open. Something new is coming.
